What procedures do Gynecology and Obstetrics specialists do?

The doctors at UCF are trained in both gynecology and obstetrics. The Ob/Gyn specialists generally start the treatment with a physical examination, such as a pelvic examination, pap smear, or a breast examination. Additional tests may also be prescribed depending on the patient’s medical history and stated needs. Moreover, they help in avoiding the health risks for mothers, such as by developing customized birth and health plans. The obstetrics team treats patients with diseases such as high blood pressure, lupus, diabetes, or other chronic diseases, as well as those having multiple births are generally referred to our team of high-risk obstetricians. This procedure examines the uterus (womb) with a device called hysteroscope. Hysteroscopes is a narrow telescope having a camera and light at its end to produce images which help in diagnosis. Hysteroscopy procedure is considered as a minor surgery which generally does not need an overnight stay in the hospital. It only requires the patients to stay overnight if they are sensitive to anesthesia.
